February 4, 1940 — June 22, 2016

Alan Ivan Kessie (Coach) age 76 passed away at his home under Hospice Care In Kenbridge Va. Al is the beloved husband of Lyn Kessie for 39 years. Al and Lyn lived in Waxhaw NC for over 30 years and less than 30 days ago moved to Virginia to establish their new farm and be closer to family.Al is the loving father of Brad (Liz) Kessie of Biloxi Mississippi, Audrey Mass (William) of Long Grove, Illinois, Cami (Derek) Myers of Chesapeake, Va. and Amy (Skip) Hogan of Kenbridge Va.Al and Lyn are the proud grandparents of ten with one great grandchild. Al is the brother of Maxine (Stephen) Levy and loving uncle and great uncle to nine nieces & nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Jean Kessie of Waukegan Illinois. Al is beloved by so many in the communities he lived and worked in. At Olympic and Providence High Schools in Charlotte NC he was, first, a teacher, then a Coach and Athletic Director. He believed strongly, that in order to excel and be successful, you needed a good strong education. He preached that to not only his coaches and athletes but his students as well. Coach Kessie was always there to listen and be a support person when anyone needed him. Al was also uniquely loved by all the animals that surrounded him on his farm in Waxhaw. He was as comfortable on the tractor creating a tranquil environment for their home life as he was on the practice fields. He will sorely be missed...but he will "always" be remembered and loved by many. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Virginia – Southside, Inc. and respects can be made at cremationofvirginia.com.
