Dr. Francis Noland Dawson of Blairs, Virginia passed from a continuing illness May 22, 2024. He was born in South Charleston, West Virginia to Francis Dawson Sr. and Beulah Craig Dawson of Saint Albans, West Virginia on 3-18-1944. He attended West Virginia University, where he was a cadet in the army ROTC and was awarded a BA in history. He then served in the Army of the United States as an officer for three years with Vietnam as his last tour of duty in 1969 and 70 where he was awarded a Bronze Star, Legion of Merritt and Vietnamese Silver Star. After he completed his obligation, he returned to WVU and completed his masters degree in guidance and counseling, and then his PhD in history. He taught at West Virginia University, Penn State University, and the University of Alaska at the northwest campus in Nome. When he retired, he filled his days with house remodels and landscaping. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Penelope Dawson, of the residence and one son Matthew and his wife Christie of Blairs, Virginia. A memorial service will be held in June on Saturday the 22nd.
