Gene Coleman Soyars

Mrs. Gene Dickens Soyars, 88, died at her daughter’s home on Monday, December 14, 2015.She was born in Georgia on January 20, 1927 to Eugene “Gee” Coleman and Virginia Pollard Dickens. Mrs. Soyars was raised in Halifax County and South Boston, VA, and she became a resident of Cascade upon her marriage to the late H. Norman Soyars. Gene was a graduate of Ferrum Junior College and was a member of Cascade Baptist church where she served as treasurer for many years. Mrs. Soyars is survived by daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Soyars of Summerfield, NC; and son, Charles “Chuck” Soyars of Augusta, GA. Gene was preceded in death by her husband, H. Norman Soyars; daughter, Norma Gene Soyars; son, Vernon “Frank” Soyars; brother, Cecil Dickens; stepfather, Vernon Jontz; and her parents. A memorial service will be held at Cascade Baptist Church after the beginning of the year at a date to be determined later. Interment will be at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.
