James "Jimmy" Everett Hendley

March 4, 1957 — February 23, 2025

James Everett "Jimmy" Hendley of Nathalie, Virginia went to be with our Lord on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the age of 67.  Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on March 4, 1957 he was the son of the  late Wilma Esther (Dagg) Hendley and the late James Clifton Hendley of Avenel, NJ and grew up in the Woodbridge area and lived there for many years before moving to East Bangor, PA then VA.
Jimmy was a prayerful Christian, a kind and gentle man who was loved by many and who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He was a truck driver by trade, driving gasoline tanker and  tow trucks as well as his Chevy Colorado that he loved.  He also worked for many years at Edison Plastics in Edison, NJ and in VA was a driver for the Gazette-Virginian newspaper.  As an avid Harley-Davidson rider, he survived a major accident in 1988 that left him physically disabled in some ways but in spite of that he studied and taught himself many skills involving plumbing, construction and electrical work and loved working in his big garage where he recently built a studio apartment addition.  Working on outdoor projects was a favorite thing to do and he especially loved his time on his tractor.  Recently, he was a novice guitar player after admiring his cousin Wayne for many years.  And always at his side, (and still looking out the window for him), is his German Shepherd constant companion, Gracie.  Other dogs he loved (with him in Heaven) were Shaina and Mandy.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Susan Hollwedel of Nathalie, his children, James David Hendley and Sandy Weingarten of Woodbridge, NJ; sister, Sylvia Hendley of Virgilina, VA; Susan's children: Nick (Beth) of Austin, TX; Jim (Amanda) of Plainfield, Nj; and Eddie (Kari) of Hunterdon,NJ as well as sisters-in-law: Fran (Rich), Patricia (Charlie), Geri (Rusty) of Old Bridge, Nj and brother-in-law James of Nathalie, VA.  He is also survived by grandchildren Brian, Kaylee, Danica, Jack, Zoe, James, Zella, Zenia and Ruby Sue; nieces: Sheryl Dixon (Clint) of Roxboro, NC and Janet Mapletoft (Fred, Juliann) of Denville, NJ; cousins: Carolyn and Bobby (Cathy) Cullum, Wayne (Barbara) Simoneau, Donna Stevens, Richie Mealy and Chet Majewski as well as special friends Dave Eustice, Roy White, Buddy Ware, and Paul Thomas.  He was preceded in death by cousins Linda Craig and Betty Jean Porter, favorite aunts and uncles Bob and Sylvia Cullum, Emily and Chet Majewski and Naomi Mealy.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at The First Presbyterian Church of Avenel, 621 E. Woodbridge Ave, Avenel, Nj 07001 with the Rev. Dr. Greg Misick officiating. (Burial will be private at a later date in the New Cemetery, Somerville, NJ.)
