Margaret Bryant White

January 21, 1924 — October 20, 2022

Margaret Bryant White (Marge), 98, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022. Margaret was born on
Jan. 21, 1924 in Lockney Texas, the third of five siblings all of whom predeceased her. Her parents were
Edward Rowland (Roe) and Minnie Mae Bryant (Mae). A life long Christian and a member of the Church
of Christ she married her husband Barney in March 1943 in Washington, DC. He preceded her in death
after 68 years of marriage in 2011. Their marriage produced 3 children, George (Jolene), James (Sandra)
and Janis (Paul). She has 5 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren whom she deeply loved.
Margaret referred to herself as the “Last of the Mohicans” because she had survived all of her cousins
and many of her nieces and nephews. Margaret grew up in Texas and Colorado and moved to
Washington, DC to work for the Department of the Navy during WW2. After WW2 she and Barney raised
their three children in the northern Virginia suburbs and worked to send all three to graduate from
Virginia Tech. In 1974 she and Barney relocated (she never retired) to Clarksville, Va. In Clarksville she
developed many close friendships and was active in the community. For the last several years, because
of failing health, she had been a resident of Clarksville Health & Rehab. She wanted to stay close to her
church family in South Boston and her many friends in Clarksville. The family would like to offer our
special thanks to the staff at CHR and to her long time helpmate Lisa Sheldon. Because of illnesses in the
family there is no plan for an immediate memorial service. Margaret will be inurned at Arlington
National Cemetery with her husband Barney. In lieu of flowers contributions to the South Boston Church
of Christ or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
