He was born in Lowesville, Virginia, on May 2 , 1935. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1963. He spent most of his career as a manufacturing supervisor with Westinghouse Electric. He was a licensed pilot for many years and enjoyed taking friends and family for rides in his Cessna. He dabbled in real estate for a time. He had many interests and hobbies including coin collecting, astronomy, bird watching, and woodworking. Many of the pieces that he crafted now sit in our homes.
Daddy was a man of many talents. It did not matter what the subject was, he knew how to approach it or fix it. He enjoyed bird watching and could identify just about any bird that visited the birdfeeder. We were often entertained by the persistence of the squirrels to access the bird feeder. He was knowledgeable about coins and enjoyed searching for rare finds when he was able.
Daddy was a man of few words. Daddy was a good man. He was truthful . It was never a question where he stood on a subject . Simple was better.
He loved McDonald’s coffee, apple fritters, rice pudding, jello with fruit, shirts with two pockets, ice cream cones, clingfree nectarines, and hot dogs with chili. He loved us and we loved him.
His life’s mantra was inspired by Frank Sinatra’s My Way. He had a beautiful voice and memories of hearing him sing along remain. He absolutely lived a life that was full, he laughed and cried, and did it his way.
The family will have a private service at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery in Amelia , Virginia and at Fairview , the family homeplace in Lowesville, VA.
