Roy Eugene Vansickle

December 5, 1922 — October 2, 2022

Roy Eugene VanSickle passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022. He was born December 5, 1922 in Topeka Kansas to George Roy and Dorothy Gladys VanSickle. Roy was a devoted husband to his wife of 75 years, Irene, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his four children Dennis VanSickle, Mark VanSickle, Janice VanSickle Mayorga and Michael VanSickle and three grandchildren Gloria, Rochelle and Steven.
Roy devoted much of his adult life to his family and successful 35-year career with Shell Oil. His life was full of unique and fascinating experiences and travel. He could always add an entertaining personal story to any conversation. He was a quiet man who approached life calmly and methodically and surprised everyone with his quick wit and sense of humor. He set a high standard for himself at an early age when he mastered discipline and a strong work ethic. His faith and determination helped him to accomplish any goal that he set. He remained humble and frugal despite his successes and always seemed grounded by his kind and generous spirit.

Up until his retirement, his free time was spent mostly tending to his family and repairs around the house. It didn’t matter whether it was a car, an appliance, a plumbing or electrical issue -- Roy could fix it. When he retired, he began to enjoy the outdoors and his love of nature. He added hiking, backpacking and class 5 river rafting to his colorful portfolio of life experiences. He said that “Vogelsang in Yosemite was as close to Heaven on Earth as anyplace he had ever been.”

Roy just had a way about him -- people instantly liked him. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and he will be missed by those who knew and loved him. His life serves as a reminder to all of us that each day is a gift that holds opportunity to better ourselves and the lives of others. May he rest in peace knowing that he built a great life and added to the lives of those he left behind.
