Randall Charles Herring

Randall Charles Herring, 85, passed away January 11, 2025. Randy was born to the late Elias and Anna Herring on December 1, 1939, of Catawissa, PA. In 1955, Randy’s parents moved to South Hill, VA and Randy left for Longview, Texas where he earned his welding degree from LaTourneau University. Randy continued his education in Durham, NC and often shared with pride that he didn’t just earn an engineering degree he earned a civil engineering degree from Duke in 1962. He cherished the lifelong fraternity brothers and friends he made while at Duke University. He served his country in the VA Air National Guard from 1963-1969. Randy traveled the world during his long career with IBM.

Randy was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl, his favorite travel partner. Together, Randy and Cheryl traveled to 19 countries and 49 states. Also preceded by their beloved beagle, Watson, who ran many miles with Randy in the Palmer Springs area. Randy is survived by his step-family Susie Saunders, Lynchburg, VA, Stephen and Cindy Walker, Charlotte Court House, VA, Kevin and Marie Walker, South Hill, VA, and dear friends Warren and Faye Matthews, South Hill, VA. He was affectionately known as Grandy to his five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Randy was honest, loyal and loved. Services will be private.
